    Return to Play Plan

    Updated August 4, 2021

Operating under ViaSport's Return to Sport Step 3 (effective July 1/2021)

(The information in this document is current from today's date and aligns with guidance from ViaSport and BC's Restart plan.)

We are excited to offer a more "normal" Fall (2021/2022) soccer experience for youth in our community, which will include a return to full game play, travel and spectators. However, the COVID-19 situation continues to change/evolve and is different in each geographical area. Therefore, we must all follow the BC Ministry of Health's guidance- this includes all OYSS members as well as affiliated clubs within our leagues. Each municipality may have potentially different restrictions and limitations on bookings/activities and we will all work together to ensure that a safe environment is provided to all participants.

    General Measures

    • All OYSS activities must comply with the general measures, recommendations, and any gathering restrictions issued by BC health authorities including Island Health
    • Physical distancing is not required on the field of play, including bench area
    • 2 metres between people is still required outside the field of play
    • All participants must be registered per normal process under BC Soccer, including parent/guardian providing written consent for players U18 and younger

    Creating a Safe Environment

    • Attendance records will continue to be kept at all games/training for participants, coaches, staff and officials
    • Players are to bring their own refreshments and will be reminded to not share
    • All OYSS members will receive clear communication in regards to drop off/pick up protocols for arrival/departure at any booked facilities/fields if required
    • Zero tolerance on illness

    Equipment

    • Coaches will continue to take charge of set up and collection of equipment, with limited handling by players
    • Avoidance of sharing communal high touch equipment such as goal keeper gloves- or players will be encouraged to do appropriate hand hygiene before and after use

    Players Check list

    • If you feel ill, DO NOT come to training or games
    • Notify OYSS and stay home if feeling sick or sharing the home with someone that has COVID-19 symptoms or a confirmed COVID-19 diagnosis
    • Ensure water bottles and other personal gear are clearly labelled
    • Clean hands before arriving and after leaving the field
    • Follow all health directions from coaching staff and officials
    • If you need to cough or sneeze, do so into your sleeve/elbow
    • No spitting or clearing your nose

    Coaches Check list

    • If you feel ill, DO NOT come to training or games
    • Notify OYSS and stay home if feeling sick or sharing the home with someone that has COVID-19 symptoms or a confirmed COVID-19 diagnosis
    • If any players display any symptoms of illness they must be sent home
    • Continue to limit how many players handle equipment

    Parents Check list

    • If your player feels ill, DO NOT come to training or games
    • Notify OYSS and keep your player home if feeling sick or sharing the home with someone that has COVID-19 symptoms or a confirmed COVID-19 diagnosis
    • Remind your player to clean their hands before arriving and after leaving the field

    Outbreak Plan

If staff (including volunteers) or a participant reports that they are suspected or confirmed to have COVID-19 and have recently attended soccer training/games, we will implement our illness policy.

This includes immediately reporting and discussing the suspected case with the Medical Health officer (or delegate) for Island Health.
